About:
- Codeine is a weak, naturally occurring opiate. It is converted to a small amount of morphine in the blood. It is approximately 1/10th the strength of Morphine. Approximately 6%-10% of the population possess an enzyme which makes Codeine ineffective in these individuals.
Dosage:
- The typical dose for mild to moderate pain is 30-60mg. For recreational usage a good starting dose for the opiate naive is between 120-160mg. Doses above 450mg in the opiate naive should be considered dangerous.
- Warning codeine typically come in formulations with other medicines such as paracetamol. Using such medicines in doses sufficient to cause recreational effects can result in serious damage to your health. A technique called Cold Water Extraction can be used to massively reduce the amount of paracetamol and other chemicals present in such formulations.
- Consuming codeine other than by swallowing is not recommended.
Side Effects
- Due to the fact codeine is a weak opiate, side effects are less commonly encountered than with other opiates. Nausea and drowsiness can occur. For more information see General Opiate Side Effects.
Addiction Potential
- Codeine as with all opiates is addictive. It usually takes weeks of continual or heavy usage to become physically dependent Any addiction to Codeine is likely to be significantly less in severity by comparison to other opiates, especially if the doses used are moderate.
